Water treatment
Water is life
About three-quarters of the earth is covered in water, of which 97% are salt water and 3% fresh water. Without this element no life would be possible on our planet. Plants, animals or humans? All metabolic processes depend on water. We humans can survive a maximum of four days without fluid intake. The human body consists of 60% water.
Water quality
A large part of Europe uses fresh water. But there are also areas, close to the coast for instance, where only salt water is available. Depending on the designated use of the water, a certain quality is desirable.
Both surface water and well water often contain raised parameters that can cause problems when using this untreated water. In a laboratory, the untreated water is tested on multiple parameters. These parameters provide insight into the water quality. Based on this, a Remon water expert can provide a sound advice about the treatment needed to ensure the desired water quality using a water treatment system.
The required water quality after treatment depends on intended use of the water. For cleaning purposes, for instance, it is primarily important that no deposits occur, as a result of certain raised values. Iron (Fe), for example, can leave a brown deposit on tiles, paving and walls. The values manganese (Mn) and lime (°DH) also have a similar effect. Manganese creates a black deposit and lime a white to yellowish deposit. Think for example of the white, yellowy lime deposits in a kettle or on bathroom tiles. Values such as NaCl (salt) and a low pH can contaminate materials very quickly.
In terms of water quality and standards after water treatment, the classification below applies:
1.0 Human consumption ? Drinking Water Decree 2011
2.0 Industrial water standards ? Water standards relating to printing presses, for example (demi water)
3.0 Animal consumption ? Water standards relating to the health and production of animals classified as follows:
- Drinking water for beef cattle
- Drinking water for dairy cows
- Drinking water for calves
- Drinking water for veal calves
- Drinking water for fattening pigs
- Drinking water for sows
- Drinking water for broiler hens
- Drinking water for laying hens
- Drinking water for horses
All these variations apply different standards. A Remon water expert knows the different standards and which water treatment systems are required to achieve the desired quality.

Water consumption
Human consumption
In all facets of our life, water plays a key role. On average, each person in the Netherlands uses 126 litres of water a day ? to shower, to bathe, to wash, to do dishes, to cook and to drink, for the garden and for washing the car.
Agricultural sector
The agricultural sector uses large volumes of water. Both for irrigation of crops and providing for the basic needs of animals. A dairy cow, for instance, uses at least 110-200 litres of water a day to produce 40 litres of milk. But glasshouse horticulture and arable farming also require a lot of water.
Industry
Industry uses a lot of water for cooling machines. And a great deal of water is used for certain production processes. Think for example of wet-mix concrete plants.
Sports & Spa
Swimming pools, saunas, ice rinks, golf courses and football fields all use massive quantities of water, too.
